Turkish Restaurant – Alaturka!
We dunno the shop name. Only know that it’s a Turkish restaurant, pple can smoke Sheesha there, and its at Arab Street (according to Cowboy Caleb’s info).
We din see any Turkish restaurant in Arab Street. See no one smoking Sheesha either. So, we stopped and asked for direction. The uncle in one of the shops told us that there is a new Turkish restaurant around the corner at Bussorah Street. So, we went down there.
Yesh! It’s a Turkish Restaurant – ALATURKA. But dun think it’s the one that Caleb mentioned. Coz the boss said he still have not gotten the license to let pple smoke Sheesha. Anyway, we decided to give it a try.
The entrance had this big TURKISH EYE. It’s a small restaurant with no air-con, but with fans. A bit warm though. We dunno how to order, so the boss recommended some dished to us:
It’s a salad combination. There were yogurt with garlic and cucumber, deep fried eggplant with tomato sauce (Sosly Patlican – very delicious おいしい!), potato salad, and some dippers for the Turkish flat bread.
It’s a claypot chicken with mushrooms and cheese on top. Taste like Tom yam though. But very savoury! We had it with rice instead of flat bread.
It’s a vermicelli pastry with cheese wrapped inside. Very sweet but with the combination of cheese and crumbs of pistachio, its juz nice!
As for the drinks, we tried the Ayran (Yogurt drink) and the Ice Turkish Apple Tea (S$2 each). The Ayran is a bit too sour for us, while for the Apple tea is refreshing. The boss served us a tea that tasted like the Chinese tea, Tieguanyin. Not bad, a bit bitter, but I like it. The tea is on the house. When we about to settle the bill, the boss then came over and passed the sugar to us for the tea. ~_~ He was surprised to see us drinking it without adding any sugar (Duh!)
Anyway, its quite a nice restaurant, and I will go there again if I got transport!

Will check it out. Thanks. ^_^
Well i like to been there and eat the food is awesome and the places is convinient for me, and my buddy’s. But the only main thing that i don’t like it is the boss of alaturka he don’t much entertain any customers at all nor even smile, and the way i look he’s a bad temper person and moddy. Well mayb by his nature …. Lol
I rather don’t like the place there, its luk like in the jungle … and the service are not well perform … only the staff there were so nice to us.
Darel, the boss was very nice to us. He even showed us some brochures of Turkey. Maybe he was having a foul mood that day U went.
hi, i can’t comment all that stuff the food is nice especially shesha, balkva, apple tea, and pizza alaturka yum yum yummy uhmmm super duper. About the boss i’m not sure but maybe you guys are right, but that’s not important to me coz i come there to eat and what ever the hell i order not for free i pay it, if he has the bad faces that’s none of my fucking buissness he can go to hell sucker ;’-. Chow
Whoa this places is excelent, its a places for relexing. I love this place i will go again there someday, even how much they are busy with the others customers but they even greet us and serve us with smilling faces and politely. The waiter & Waitress are sooooo good they even give us a time to decide what to order and also she recomend us a very nice turkish food even though the staff are not much as others restaurant but they can make it to make the customers happy and enjoying the atmosphere there in alaturka restaurant as well of the food ;-)
The best sheesha, if you want to know, is at Cafe El Sheikh located at No.18 Pahang Street (near Arab Street) you pass Ambrosia and Samar before reaching there. The pipes are smooth clean and the tobacco is served fresh not like some of the crap that is being served in those other cafes. I should know about sheesha because I’ve been smoking it for 18 years and having lived in Egypt and other Mid East countries and exploring sheesha bars, cafes and ‘ahwas’ I tell you I am so particular about sheesha I say El Sheikh sheesha is Numero Uno!!!
Peace and Puff Man!
hey hi ther.. nid some help here man..been lookin fer d best sheesha cafe tis few days..still cudn’t findd..nid a relexing soothin ermm dim lites with sofas…geezz..does tat kindof place exist…hope u cud hep…thenkzyah..cya..
The place you are looking for is definitely Ambrosia. Its around Arab street and if you ask for directions you should get there. Ask for the executive chef and say you are reccommended by a friend and he will cook for you without a doubt. I think the food there is superb and value for money. Go try it out.
[...] [Postscript: Just realised that many others had reviewed this delicious Turkish restaurant! Read caleb’s excellent advice on why Samar should be avoided at all costs and Natsuumi’s varied responses on AlaTurka and one other eating establishment in the same area, Ambrosia, which was the place I initially wanted to go to. I really wanted to go and try Ambrosia’s food, based on a recommendation by Manja Magazine, but according to my friend, its permenantly closed, or at least not open when even though it was about one when I reached there, the place which stated that its opening hours were from 11am, was closed. Any other delicious Turkish place I can go to besides Sofra, AlaTurka, Anatolia?] [...]
